Building Information Modeling (BIM)


 Whenever there is a complexity (in the process / understanding / problem / solution ) then we may have requirements for improvement /change or  making use of   advanced techniques and technologies. In this digital transformation era of the construction industry adoption of technology is becoming must and should.


BIM technology is the  blooming and booming technology. Across the world adoption has already started and the future will be shaped by the BIM and Digital twins. Along with it Facility management service also will take place.

In the AEC industry BIM is changing the way we plan and execute. We are aware that there are different dimensions of BIM.

Core concepts and processes used to implement dimensions of BIM may vary (it depends). Yes ! We all have been working for a long time in industry ,of course that too on / in different projects.

As we all know Construction industry works are not the same, these are not like Manufacturing industry works. In the Manufacturing industry if we design and produce a product successfully then, same  formula applicable and we can get many like that. It is already dealing with robotics. But it is entirely different in construction.  Because we often face and experience  different locations ,situations, obstacles and difficulties maximum in all projects.

No matter in which industry, in which field we are, definitely challenges will be always there.

To overcome or to find solutions to these challenges and especially to mitigate the risks , cost and time overruns . BIM is helping very much throughout the project life. Yes !

By studying more and more and by interacting with many professionals who work in the industry ,I am also realizing the actual process and capabilities of BIM.

Of Course there are many definitions of BIM , which are given by different professionals , organizations and institutes. But I liked the following definition very much which is given by Autodesk(I found this definition in the book “Getting started with BIM for Civil engineering , A guide to your first project”) .

“Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a process that begins with creating an intelligent 3D design model and then uses that model to facilitate more efficient design and documentation, better coordination, simulation and visualization.

BIM can help owners and service providers improve how buildings and infrastructure are planned ,designed ,built and managed.”

BIM Is Not Only 3D Design/Modeling!

  Most people perceive BIM as a software or 3D modelling. If there is a discussion about BIM, most probable question is “what BIM software you know?”. And question is, “To buy, learn and implement the software, it costs so much, so why should we do that when work is being completed in normal way?”   At this exact situation, I make them to sit down and will start explaining as below.   Smile like beautiful sunshine😇. I realized that To accelerate our journey in the AEC Industry (BIM era) Software/Tools are very important. I started working on CAD MEP, Revit & NavisWorks(of course there are many but for now). In fact, to get hands-on experience and to add our creativity/value, it requires a lot more practice, to practice needs time.
